8351. UNTERREDUNGEN DES KÖNIGS MIT DEM GROSSBRITANNISCHEN MINISTER MITCHELL.

Dresden, 19. und 20. November 1756.

Mitchell berichtet an Holdernesse, Dresden 24. November (secret): . . . I took the liberty to represent to the King of Prussia the satisfaction it would give to His Majesty, and the advantage it might be of to the common cause, that his plan for the opérations of the next campaign was communicated as early as possible. He answered your administration in England is not yet settled. I replied that our divisions in England were merely personal etc. . . .“ Am folgenden Tage1 hat Mitchell, wie er weiter berichtet, vom Könige das „Projet de campagne“ und das „Memoire raisonné sur l'état présent de l'Europe“ erhalten:2 „When he delivered them to me, he said these were his thoughts hastily put together, which he submitted to His Majesty's consideration, and hoped they would be examined in England with freedom and candour, that he should not have taken upon him to offer a projet to His Majesty, if colonel Lentulus3 had not repeated to him some conversations he, Lenttilus, had had in England. I assured him whether the plan was adopted in its füll extents or not, that his offering would certainly be considered as a favour. He then desired me to send it in the safest and most secret way to England, and said he would be glad to know how it was liked, that he was ready to receive alterations or amendments etc., but above ail things he wished for dispatch, the want of which he could not help considering the chief cause of our misfortunes.

The King of Prussia has several times mentioned to me the necessity there is of sending back the Hannoverian and Hessian troops4 and of concluding instantly the bargains with the Dukes of Brunswick5 and of Gotha for the troops they are [capable] to furnish. He asked me, if I knew the difficulties that had secured. I told him I was absolutely uninformed in these affaire ...“
