Je rends grâce au Ciel de l'avantage que mon neveu vient de remporter sur le duc de Württemberg,681-5 et je vous remercie du secours que vous voulez bien m'envoyer; j'en ai grand besoin. Ma position et mes circonstances empirent tous les jours. J'ai ici à Freiberg681-6 15 ba<682>taillons, Daun en assemble 20 à Dippoldiswalde, et voilà en même temps les Cercles fortifiés de 5000 Autrichiens qui marchent par la Bohême pour me tourner par Chemnitz. Si je suis obligé d'abandonner ce poste-ci, me voilà obligé de me tenir entre Nossen et Meissen. Pourvu que mon neveu pût arriver bientôt, je crois que je pourrais me soutenir dans les montagnes, ce qui forcerait Daun à se replier.

He told me yesterday of his intended expedition to Freiberg, the keeping of which post he thinks of the utmost importance, as he believes the Austrians cannot long subsist in the narrow district they possess, especially if the communication with Bohemia should be rendered more difficult by the fall of snow in the mountains.
