10561. UNTERREDUNG DES KÖNIGS MIT DEM GROSSBRITANNISCHEN MINISTER MITCHELL.

Dresden, 22. November 1758.

Mitchell berichtet an Holdernesse, Dienstag 23. November 1758 (separate), der König habe ihm gestern mitgetheilt, dass er die Vollmachten für seine Vertreter in London unterzeichnet habe.397-1

„When I spoke to [the King of Prussia] about signing a convention with His Majesty in the same terms as that of the 11th April,397-2 he said he had no objection, that he continued firm in the same way of thinking and was only sorry that his misfortunes during the last campaign had made this measure necessary, that he wished above all things to be no bürden to his allies.

I replied that His Majesty and the nation offered this pecuniary assistance with the greatest chearfulness and cordiality, and that they were sufficiently apprized of his noble and generous way of thinking.

He then turned the conversation, and as I knew it is a subject he does not like to talk upon, I said nothing farther. He then asked me if I had any news from Constantinople ...“
