10589. UNTERREDUNG DES KÖNIGS MIT DEM GROSSBRITANNISCHEN MINISTER MITCHELL.
Dresden, 9. December 1758.
Mitchell berichtet an Holdernesse, Dresden 11. December, dass er am 9. dem Könige die Rede der Lord-Commissioners und die Ant<419>worten der beiden Häuser des Parlaments mitgetheilt habe. Der König hat sich über die Rede sehr anerkennend ausgesprochen. „He congratulated me very sincerely on the harmony and unanimity which now prevail in the Councils of Great Britain, which he said was a most fortunate event for the common cause and could not fail of being productive of the best effects, whether the allies were obliged to carry on the war or enabled to make an honourable and secure peace ...“
Mitchell berichtet an Holdernesse, Dresden 11. December (separate), dass er am 9. die von König Georg auf die Insinuationen des französischen Hofes ertheilte Antwort419-1 dem Könige von Preussen vorgelegt habe. „He said, after reading the answer, I expected this from the King, and His Majesty may depend on a suitable return on my part, whenever the occasion shall offer. He then observed that the answer was very properly and judiciously worded so as not to shut the door upon any ouvertures that may be made; for, added he, though I wish for peace, I wish that the first proposais may come from our enemies, it is therefore right to encourage them to speak out.
After desiring me to follow him to Breslaw, His Prussian Majesty said: I will this afternoon write to the King, your master,419-2 to acquaint him with what has happened at the close of the campaign ...“
